MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss (Take 30 News) --- The Mississippi State University Career Center offers many interview tips from experts on how to have a successful interview. Experts instruct students and alumni who are looking for jobs and internships for the upcoming summer to apply now. Students and alumni can start preparing now by going to the career center and asking for help from career counselors.
MSU student Ryan McClung said that the Career Center has benefitted her.
"My career counselor has told me that it’s never too early to apply for your internships, umm you mainly want to start your junior year. But although it's February you can start and apply because May comes really fast," McClung said.
Interview tips can be used for grad school applications, co-ops internships, and both part time and full-time jobs. Students say they see a major impact after using the tips given by the career center. Practice makes perfect. Experts say the more you practice for interviews the more prepared you will feel.
The tips that are offered at the career center are dressing professionally, being on time, and bringing multiple copies of my resume.
"We can help people who are trying to change their career path or people who have been out of work force to brush up on their interview skills and modernize their resume," career expert Mukti Patel said.
The resources that are offered at the career center are mock interviews and resume reviews and editing. Students say how this has helped them feel more confident after using the resources. McClung has heard back from a company she applied to due to the help she received.
"I applied for an internship in Colorado and they accepted my application and now I have an interview coming up soon.” McClung said.
Patel says if you follow these tips you will have a successful interview. Utilize the career center and sign up for mock interviews. Research the company. Have a good firm handshake and make eye contact. Speak with like you know what you're talking about. And make a good last impression, send a thank you note to your interviewer.
