MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. (Take 30 Sports)---Mississippi Fans are going to have a lot more to cheer about this fall after the hiring of “The Pirate” Mike Leach. On January 9th, 2020, it was announced that the innovator of the Air Raid offense would be heading to Starkville as Mississippi State’s new head coach.
The man who is legendary not only for his style of play but also for his press conferences has excited the Mississippi State fanbase like they haven’t been in years.
“I think it might be difficult at first, but he seems like a kind of go-getter coach” says Hannah Sanford, a Mississippi State student and football fan. “I think he takes football seriously and I think he is weird and different than other coaches, but I definitely think that he like demands respect of his players and coaching staff and everything and I think he'll be good.”
“I am really excited to see what Mike Leach can do here in the SEC. His style of play is going to be something to see if it works out the way it’s supposed to,” Mississippi State University student and football season ticket holder Miles Conrad said.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Mike leach open up their season on September 5th against New Mexico at Davis-Wade Stadium.
