Campus Parking Lot Improvements

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Take 30 News)---One of the most frequently used locations for commuters and teachers at MSU are causing problems, as some say parking lot conditions have worsened over the years.

Commuters complain about steep potholes, gravel, and uneven spots that've damaged cars.

Students are fed up after multiple incidents have caused tire troubles and accidents in attempt to avoid holes in the gravel.

"You have to swerve to avoid them sometimes you can't even swerve to avoid them because cars are coming they need to be fixed these pot holes are horrible we are messing up our cars because of this parking lot," one student said.

Some say the parking lots for off-campus students and teachers are getting worse as rain has caused the potholes to flood over leading to multiple gravel puddle spots. Commuters are looking for questions to be answered as conditions can worsen, causing much more damage to other cars.

 "They need to be fixed asap, I mean just fill these potholes repair this parking lot do something this is horrible," one student said.

Director of Parking and Transit, Jeremiah Dumas said in a statement;

"The gravel directly behind the industrial education building is typically graded the first opportunity available when we noticed that there are potholes (which is why it was graded just last week). These issues are greatest after large amounts of rain. As normal practice we do it at a minimum twice annually (spring break and summer)."

The parking manager for MSU Parking and Transit Services says MSU has approved to pave the parking lot over the next year.
