Reservation-Wide Curfew in Effect

PHILADELPHIA, MS (Take 30 News)--- The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben implements a curfew for the reservation. Community members are required to be home at 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.   

The curfew is for the safety of the tribal members. Chief Cyrus Ben signed the Executive order Ordinance 50-A March 20, 2020.

“During these hours, I ask please respect and corporate with our Choctaw police department,” Ben said.

The curfew comes after all Choctaw Tribal Schools, Partial government businesses, and Resort Properties faced closures. There are only five exempt classes. Persons who are working with the permission of their supervisor or who are traveling to or from work. Persons who traveling to or from medical care. Persons who are traveling to or from a wake function. Persons who are employed as a first responder who are engaged in the course of their duties; or Persons who are actively engaged in hunting or fishing activities that are approved under the MBCI wildlife Proclamation.

Any member to violate the order will face a $50 fine and imprisonment for 30 days and additional civil penalties. For more information, go to the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Facebook page.
