MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss (Take 30 News) --- Student body elections took place on Mississippi State's campus on March 3rd, 2020. Tyler Packer and Joshua Hartley went head to head in the running for student body president. Packer received 80 percent of the campus' vote while Hartley received 20 percent of the vote. Packer takes the place of current president Jake Manning on April first.

"As student body president I will basically oversee all of student government So basically ill have an expect an appointed exec. and then I help out with cabinet my chief staff will lead cabinet I will help lead senate and Vice President so basically being the face of Mississippi State University student association and running that show," Packer said.

Although it was an exciting night for Tyler Packer, in a written statement Joshua Hartley stated that his passion for the university has not changed. He said he "will continue to serve throughout the campus and in the Starkville community, and continue to ring his cowbell proud as a Mississippi State University student."  He also stated that he wishes Tyler the best of luck.

Packer said during his term that the only direction he plans on moving the campus is forward.

"I'm really focusing on tactile things that I know are feasible and within student governments power to get done. I'm focusing on flex dollars off campus, many SEC schools have them many schools around the country have them, I feel like that's a great opportunity that we can do here at Mississippi State. That will greatly benefit students, not just freshman and sophomores but also upperclassman," Packer said.
