Weather Didn’t Stop Runners From Half-Marathon

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Take 30 News)---- Friends, families and athletes of all skill levels gathered to participate in Starkville’s 34th annual Frostbite Half-Marathon in January. Founded by the Starkville running club in 1984, the race has gained sponsorships from local philanthropists at Chick-Fil-A of Starkville and Kelly Cutshaw CPA.

Runners were able to choose between a 5k and a Half Marathon. The city also stationed officers at major intersections to safely direct runners and to prevent traffic buildup.

At the 9:00 A.M. pistol fire, the temperature was 29 degrees Fahrenheit, but runners claimed that once they started to run, the cold didn’t bother them as much. Most runners came to Starkville from around the Golden Triangle, but other participants came to sign up from all over the United States.

Organizers at Kelly Cutshaw CPA said that the purpose of the event is to build community and encourage exercise across the south. Food and drinks were provided to runners at the finish line.
