STARKVILLE, Miss. (Take 30 News)— Quincy Henderson, a student at MSU, never thought he would be celebrating Easter Sunday a home. On April 1st Governor Tate Reeves issued a stay at home order due to Covid-19. Which caused churches not to be able to reopen by Easter Sunday.
Quincy explains why being able to physically attend church is so important to him.
"From my standpoint church has always been pivotal in my family's life so especially in the African American community as well so it really kind of hurts not being able to go to church," stated Quincy.
Although many churches in Mississippi are now up to date with many ways, they can stream their church services there are some like Quincy’s church that have not quite caught on yet.
"My church is kind of old, so we don't have Facebook Live we don't have YouTube stream so I'm watching my second favorite Pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes," said Quincy.
Quincy is still able to hear a pastor preach, but he says he misses the things you can only truly experience in church.
"I miss communion because the role it plays in our congregation and what it symbolizes,” said Quincy.
Something as simple as taking notes while watching a sermon at home reminds Quincy of the feeling of being in church.
"I'm having to take notes while watching the service rather being in church and being able to jot down what the preacher is preaching about, but me taking notes right now at home makes me feel like I am in church,” stated Quincy.
At the time of writing this there is no date on when churches will be able to reopen. Until then church goers will continue to have to stream their church services on their television, laptops, or cellphones.
