How the Souper Bowl helped combat the cold weather

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Take 30 News)---The annual Souper Bowl took place in early January and was in conjunction with the annual Frostbite Half Marathon. The events took place on Main Street in downtown Starkville. Whether you were there for the race or the soup contest, downtown was the place to be.

The special events and project coordinator Paige Watson had this to say as for why the contest was held in January.

“It’s perfect for January and it’s a great meal for runners after they’ve finished the half marathon.”

The event had eateries all over the area competing. There were twelve total contestants including Harvery’s, the Starkville Café, and Moe’s Original Bar-B-Que. At the end of the contest there were two possible awards available to win voted for by the people attending the event: First Place and Best in Show. The Starkville Country Club ended up taking both awards.

Watson believes the event is going to continue to get larger. She mentions how the partnership with the half marathon year after year is great for the community and she hopes nothing but positive things will come with the development of the event.
