MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. (Take 30 News)---Mississippi State University hosted its second annual African American Literature Read-In to celebrate black history month and pay respects to various African American authors who have helped shape literature over the years. The event was originally created by the National Council of Teachers of English and has been hosted for decades. This year the event was hosted on the third floor of the library on campus in the John Grisham Room.

Here is one of main goals of the event according to the event coordinator, Kristin Javorsky.

“The idea is to raise awareness of quality works of literature that are written by African American authors to help us broaden both our own awareness and also to get these books into the hands of kids.

The intended author who planned on attending and speaking at the event had travel complications and wasn’t able to make it, causing the event to have to be rescheduled.
