New Reality: Corinth Gymnastics Teacher Virtually Connects With Students

By Drew Gardner

CORINTH, MS (Take 30 News) -- Crossroads Tumble and Cheer in Corinth, MS, is currently closed due to the Coronavirus.

Stephane Gardner has been teaching gymnastics for 17 years and has owned Crossroads Tumble and Cheer, located at the Sportsplex, for 6 years. Her students range from 3-year olds up until high school age. These students don’t have any equipment or teaching at home and have no way to practice their routines.

“I'm eight years old. I've been doing tumbling since I was 3 and I've been doing cheer for two years,” Price said. “Um, I'm afraid I'm gonna lose my skills because I've been in the gym for four days a week.”

With schools and businesses across the country experiencing these same communication issues, Gardner plans to fix that and interact with her students despite social distancing measures.

Many different high schools and colleges across the country are using Zoom, a free video chat app that allows up to 100 people in a single chat room. Through Zoom, Gardner hopes to reconnect with her students and attempt to recreate the environment of her classes as best she can.

“I'm getting the Zoom app so I can interact with them,” Gardner says. “At least see their faces and maybe do some stretches with them just so I can see them, and they can see me and know that everything's gonna be okay after all this blows over.”

Stephane Gardner hopes to have Crossroads Tumble and Cheer reopened as soon as possible and work with all of her students again later this year.
