Starkville, MISS. (Take 30 News)--Mississippi State University Hockey Club closed out their season this semester, losing to Ole Miss twice in two games, 16-0 and 20-0. This is just one in a string of devastating losses the team has suffered over recent years. Without access to nearby ice, the team gets only one training camp per year, and most of that time was spent teaching new players who had little to no experience on the ice. The result is a team that has lost every single game of their season, scoring a total of four goals across twelve games.
The Marketing head for the club says the team is at the start of a long uphill climb to recognition. The team has reached out to local business owners, MSU faculty, and team alumni for help ranging from advice to sponsorships.
Coming home from the game, it was easy for players to feel frustrated, but when asked, all of them felt satisfied with their performance, considering their obstacles. One player said with a grin that they had nowhere to go but up.
