A BON reporter recently examined a 2015 sale paper from a Jackson, Mississippi, Kroger listing various grocery items and their prices. The reporter then located fifteen of these items in 2025 in a Starkville Kroger. The reporter compared sizes and prices of the products between the two years. The results of the comparison are visualized in the infographics linked below.

Of those 15 items, seven had decreased in size or quantity. Only two of these seven items reflect a price reduction to account for their decrease in size or quantity. This chart shows the dollar-per-ounce comparison between those seven items in 2015 and 2025.

In two cases, there was a change in both the total ounces and item count of the product. The Ozarka water went for $3.99 for 24 16.9-ounce bottles in 2015, while 2025’s $4.39 price tag only buys 12 12-ounce bottles. The Kroger shrimp platter’s nine-dollar price increase only reflected a 3.2 ounce increase, while the shrimp count itself went from 80 to 60.

The comparison of these products after a decade show how shoppers are now spending more money for less groceries.
